In his first release titled “Nema”, NSEK was inspired to run an experiment inspired by by legendary producer Aphex Twin (in “Ambient Works”) by creating a wash of sound through Rhodes and Synths out of a stereo tremolo effect, then ran through a Roland Space Echo. Further, in “Recurrent”, NSEK utilized a binaural recording technique to capture the sounds of aircraft flying over his studio to bring the audience into his environment. NSEK approached both tracks, similarly by laying down a thick base layer of warm fuzzy auditory goo to build rhythm and melody on top of. Inspired by Bonobo, Thievery, and Zero 7 in his earlier days, NSEK more recently felt that the lower BPM felt “unproductive”, whereas Liquid Drum and Bass as a Genre is the perfect happy-medium to allow the listener to experience both double and half time for calm and stimulating effects. To NSEK, there is pure childish joy that comes from turning knobs on a synthesizer and seeing what happens. Also the infinite possibilities of modular routing begs the question, “well what if I routed the sound to…” Nathan Shay Elias-Kocivar (NSEK), creator of NOiSEMAKER dub, is a multi-instrumentalist, dub enthusiast, music educator, and producer, who creates multi-genres under the label NSEK.
